Narrative Assessment - Writing - 25 May 2016

Learner:  Sanad               Learning Coach: Megan Croll                Date: 25 May 2016
Learning Area: iDevelop - Writing
Learning Observed
Today Sanad was working with me and a group of #oresome writers.  We were sharing our ideas about our lives and looking at some of the common words that we could use in our writing.  The Learners were then asked to start writing independently.   Sanad was excited to write about his recent trip to Countdown and how he travelled in his car.   He used capital letters for the beginning of his sentence, a full stop at the end and also correctly spelled some high frequency words, e.g. am, my, went.  Sanad used correct letter size and letter formation for most of his letters.

We talked about how the words ‘I am’ can be written together as a contraction, e.g.  ‘I’m’.

Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Sanad is developing his Capabilities in writing.  He was able to independently think of his own story (Thinking) and get the materials that he needs for writing (Managing Self).  Sanad sounded out the letter sounds he could hear and recorded them (Using Language, Symbols and Text). He was very excited about his writing and was keen to show it to his peers and Learning Coach (Relating to Others).
Next Learning Steps
  • Check with the alphabet card to ensure that letters are formed correctly, e.g. ‘b/d’.
  • Extend his ideas to include the ‘who’, ‘when’ and ‘why’.
  • Learn more high frequency words and include them in his writing.
